Great post from our very own Dr. Laura!
“So, I saw this patient last year. She was unhappy with her weight, wanted badly to lose 50 lbs. We’d gone over her eating habits with a fine toothed comb, put together a diet/exercise plan that she was sure she could manage.
Came back in today, up 10 lbs., absolutely miserable.
“what happened to our plan?’
“The Plan didn’t work! I stuck to it to the letter, did exactly what I was supposed to, and in 3 months I lost exactly 13 lbs ”
“Well how did you feel while you were doing it?”
“I felt GREAT! I was totally into it. But WTH, 13 lbs??”
“So, you felt great and lost 13 lbs in 3 months. That was one year ago. If you’d continued (doing something that made you feel great!), how much weight would you have lost?”
Moral of this story? Stop focusing on the goal. Fall in love with the process…”
